We did this lollipop loop in the counter clockwise direction after missing the lefthand turn onto FR 380 and the Moat Mineral Site TH because it was unsigned. No biggie. The FRs were not groomed but had been snowmobiled. Barebooted this part.
There are a lot of mountain bike trails in this area with USFS signs. Need to return in summer and ride those!
Snowshoes on at the east end of Thompson Falls Trail, which initially coincides with Lower Stony Ridge MTB Trail. Falls were frozen. A couple more blazes would have been nice in here. The hemlock forest is beautiful.
Took a left on FR 379, went 0.2 mile, and right on Moat Mineral Site Trail which had been skied recently. Switchbacks were nice. Rocks/minerals were buried in snow so no collecting today. Trail pops out on FR 380. There is a kiosk with a nice 2025 MTB map of the North Conway area.
This hike was about 6.75 miles total. |
