 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few bent-over saplings high enough to walk under comfortably. Several small saplings/trees down across the trail.Easy to step over but with this last snow a few may not be visible. They all clear the ground by 4-5 inches so could potentially catch the front of a snowshoe and definitely could trip you. |

Lately we seem to be hiking the day before snow falls, so this report is obviously already old news. However, given that this last storm dropped more dry snow this trail will be even more like walking in sand, even with snowshoes. On a few of the small steep pitches I had to slam my toes into the surface to avoid sliding back. It didn't help that I was last in line so the snow was nice and loose. In some spots I was able to dig into the hard surface underneath but that will be more difficult now. Forget about spikes, you will waste so much energy. There were a few windblown bare spots under some trees and some drifts. The trail was not broken out after Pike's so we took care of that though navigation was a little tricky. Some nice short glissades going down all those little knobs on the way to the summit.
'note that GAIA shows the summit beyond the spot where you encounter the summit sign. We decided to believe the sign. If you use GAIA you should be able to find our track, it is public. |
