Cog road/trail is mostly hardpacked. I think they have a snowcat frequently going up which packed it rather firm. No post-holing. I wore Denali Evo Ascent snowshoes the whole way. Although I could have put on crampons for the upper portion - which was a mix of snow/ice so I got sufficient traction. Brought ice axe, but it didn't seem dubious enough to take it out. There were ski/boarders who seemed to restrict their actual skiing to the lower half of the mountain. Too icy in upper half. Wish I had brought a butt sled. If you were out last weekend (I did Moose) and wondered if the conditions have changed this weekend - its the same. |
