Comments
Comments: Our plan was to hike to Passaconaway then to Whiteface and return the way we came. A couple was in front of the two of us, and a man was behind us on the trails. We all had the same plan. After barebooting on the road walk, we all changed into snowshoes. Dicey’s Mill Trail was broken out to Passaconaway summit. Rollins Trail was broken out but unconsolidated snow and all the PUDs made for a long and tough trek to Whiteface summit. We convinced the couple we caught up with at Whiteface to descend via Blueberry Ledge Trail. None of us was looking forward to going back on Rollins Trail, and Blueberry Ledge Trail was 2 miles shorter. We knew that someone had gone up Blueberry Ledge Trail after last week’s snowstorm. Indeed Blueberry Ledge Trail was broken out but not many had traveled on it. Snow was deep and unconsolidated. The descent from the summit area was very steep. The ledges had some ice surrounded by tons of snow. We butt-slid down the icy areas and landed on snow. It wasn’t bad at all. Having done all Adirondack 46 High Peaks in winter, we found the ledges manageable. The four of us cruised down rest of the lightly broken out Blueberry Ledge Trail. The last 1.5 miles of the trail wasn’t broken out so we took Blueberry Ledge cut-off which was. We got back to our cars 7h10m after having started the hike this morning. We were so glad to have run into the couple and tackle Blueberry Ledge Trail together.
