 | Comments: |
Snowshoes door to door due to dry powdered snow throughout the day that made it too soft underfoot for boots. Nineteen mile brook trail is in good shape, with a clear established route as is Carter Dome Trail up to Zeta Pass. As of noon today the trail over to South Carter was not broken out yet. Carter Dome trail gets rougher after Zeta Pass with lots of side slant and loose snow creating a slippery underfoot even with snowshoes on. The last mile up to Carter Dome requires snowshoes. One poor guy was bare booting and in post hole purgatory. Very quiet day overall and had the summit to myself. It looks like the trail might be broken out on the other side of the summit down to Carter Notch Hut, but I did not investigate past a few hundred yards. Take this all with a grain of salt and I believe a bit of snow is in the forecast tonight. |
