 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Ice bridge is forming over Rocky Branch, but stay cautious, and stick to the high, packed track. The 2 feet of snow insulated the water below from the cold snap, so there's a lot of flowing water in gullies or brooks, hiding under drifts. |

 | Comments: |
11 people with snowshoes packed the trail down, apparently for this first time since the big storms; a Hiking Buddies group of 9, plus 2 solo hikers, using Engine Hill and Iso Express bushwhacks. The track was well defined at the end, with a few missteps. Snowshoes are still recommended for the loose trail at this point, as slipping off trail without would be very bad in areas.
Beware of spruce traps and drifted gullies if you go off the path; people disappeared to their shoulders about a dozen times breaking the trail out, and one person got feet soaked walking over a smooth drift that concealed a flowing stream with muddy water. |
