 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
$10 in cog hiker lot. Careful on drive in-halfway between 302 and the Cog there is a massive snow bump/berm thingy in the road. If you weren’t paying attention and hit it full speed you would be getting some serious air! |

Everybody and their uncle was out enjoying A++ winter conditions on Washington today! Nice soft snowshoe track to gem pool where I passed Captain Chris and his large, merry band of snowshoers. Later discovered there were only two solo hikers breaking through deep powder ahead of me, so the steeps were difficult. A HUGE shoutout to the lady who solo broke trail almost up to the hut-a real Herculean (or Xena Princess Warrior) effort. The guy behind her was putting in some serious work, also.
Once at hut, everything was super wind-blown and crunchy. Snowshoes worked fine up Monroe-never felt sketchy. Zero wind at hut, but was howling on Monroe summit. Good crunchy conditions up George. Oodles of people coming up behind me and from Lion’s Head route as well. Was great to link up with Tom and Michelle, the inflatable-snowshoe folks, for the descent. Probably passed 75+ skiers on the Cog. Snowshoes were fine-Jacob’s Ladder wasn’t sketch at all. Ammo should be in great shape for tomorrow!!! |
