Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of space for the 2 cars there today. Access road is plowed and in great shape...way better than Sawyer Highway (the paved road you take from 112 coming from Lincoln side) which has some legit frost heaves.

Comments
Comments: A very cold day on the Moose...1 mile road walk from the parking to the trail is plowed. I used snowshoes the whole day including the road walk. The first two miles of the trail, you could bare boot, but starting at the lookout, the trail starts to get loose, and then the final mile to the summit has some chest+ deep drifts (which were quickly filling back in on my way down). Even with snowshoes, progress was challenging in places. Stomping, wading, chopping, crawling, and harsh language were all used with varying amounts of success. Once coming out of the trees for the final stretch to the summit, there is only firm "styrofoam" snow, and luckily the wind was blowing directly from the summit, so the closer I got the more protected I was, and heading down it was a tailwind. After battling the drifts, this firm snow was very much appreciated.

It would be foolish to attempt this without snowshoes currently, I'm sure there will be some candidates.
