WMUR states that this area received 14 in. of snow from the recent storm and I would say that's accurate. Lots of new powder that made for excellent and fun snowshoeing. A beautiful morning in the park!
Tower Rd., the connecting trail, and Mountain Trail look like they had snowmobile traffic during the storm but not since then. A lone snowshoer had been up and down South Ridge via Mountain Trail from the visitor center. Another lone snowshoer had come up Tower Trail from the end of Mountain Trail; the current route deviates a bit and follows the old jeep road all the way instead of using the lower part of the marked hiking trail (which I broke out). A couple of skiers passed me on Tower Rd. on the walk out.
These trails are in no way ready for spikes yet. If you visit, you are definitely going to need snowshoes for a while as the temps are forecast to remain cold. |
