I walked up 118 to the sharp corner and put my snowshoes on and took a left on the old overgrown but obvious logging road. I stayed on this for about half a mile or so before it was time to go uphill. The snow was deeper than I expected and unconsolidated at first, but got firmer as I got higher and I went from sinking 16” to more like 6”. I followed a bearing straight for the summit, knowing it’s at the SE end of the ridge, I stayed just below the ridge to avoid the thick stuff. I was surprised I could see someone’s old ski tracks and followed them for a bit. It only took an hour and a half for the 1.5 miles and 700’ to the top, but then I spent well over an hour searching in vain for the canister. It may have been moved off of a blowdown in the past few years I’ve been told, but it’s in there somewhere. Good luck finding it. There is some nice woods up there but the actual summit is a bit of a pain, being so flat and thick. |
