Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Christine Lake. The road was plowed when we left but when we arrived at 6:00 am it had a few inches of snow, which made climbing the hill a little daunting but we made it with our trucks and a Jeep. Nobody else was parked at the lake, but the private road was used by whoever has a key to the gate.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Skis
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing major. We crossed a marsh north of the pond between the peaks that had open water and almost got wet there when the snowbridges broke. You could probably go around it.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I’m pretty sure the canister on West Long summit needs to be rehung, I believe it’s currently on a horizontal tree buried under the snowpack, so we couldn’t locate it this time. Middle long canister is in good shape.

Comments
Comments: A 12+ hour day and 12 or 13 miles to bag the Longs for Winter. Three of us headed up the maze of snowmobile trails for the first few miles, which were broken out for the first 2 if so recall, then a few inches of fluff to break for another mile. At a point just NE of Victor Head on the map, at 2000’ we took a right turn onto an old trail that was overgrown with spruce traps, so rather than continue on it, we jumped into the woods at this point and bushwhacked due north for the height of land between Percy and Long. The woods were great and the snow quite supportive under a bit of fresh powder. It was tricky to navigate however due to the flatness of the terrain. Pretty straightforward after that up to the 2 peaks, the snow was deep and covered a lot of the blowdown and we fell into these tree traps waist deep a few times. We passed a few moose tracks but not as many as expected. One seemed to have been out postholing our snowshoe track we noticed on the way back. We had some more snow and wind blowing snow off the trees and almost filling in our tracks on the way back. It was a long day starting and ending by headlamp but a good hike with good company for two NH100 checked off for winter.
