Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room of course. I didn't get an early start and yet we were the first in. 4 others on leaving.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Surprisingly just rock hops, although the second major one was easier going upstream a short ways.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Same old walkaround/duckunder on Mt. Tripyramid going to the south slide, and an old duckunder and new stepover on Scaur Ridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Another easy day for Pepper. He postholed in one place near the south peak; other than that it was smooth sailing. The south slide was easy. He had fun wading in the streams and chasing a few critters on the way out.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Barebooted to South Peak. The stream crossings were surprisingly no problem. Some ice stretches on the road and scattered on the trail to the slide. The slide was nearly ice free and while some above it before the peak it's avoidable.

I put snowshoes on to go over to the Middle peak, and they worked well they weren't essential, and I took them off to get up the peak.

From Middle to North I barebooted as the monorail held me up. Hillsounds were very nice to have for the descent; there's lots of ice and the monorail/ice help up. At the narrow ridge above Scaur one can go back to bareboots.

Scaur is barebootable, with icy and snowfree patches mixing in the upper such that no choice works well. At 3000' or so the trail clears and is a nice stroll down. As noted the monorail held me, but for much of it the depth is so little it would be hard to get much of a hole, and often the sides are nearly clear. There are patches of still deep snow that had been and could be postholed but today that didn't happen with us. It looked like there had been a hiker or two that came up Pine Bend, and they may have had a few holes but not many; most are from prior days.

No wind, some spots of sun through thin clouds and mild temps made for a very comfy hike. We saw no one on the trails, and one guy and his Lab on Livermore. It was a very nice hike for such a day, with a great companion.
