On trail a little bit before 8am, not too much traces on trail, I was not sure if I was the first one on the trail. Hillsound all the way up, I colud put the snowshoes for the last section before the hut but it was manageable with light traction. Light traction was perfect for the summit of Madison where I met a group of three guys who camped close to the hut. Gulfside trail was snowdrifted for the first section and Air Line to Mt Adams summit was sometime hard to follow for the snow and poor visibility. Descent to the parking via Air Line was brutal at the beginning with all the wind ans a lot of snowdrifts. I switched to snowshoes just after the intersection with the Chemin des dames because the amount of snow on trail. I switched back to light traction maybe after 1 mile. The rest of the hike was easy with light traction. Not the day hike with the most beautiful views but a hike in the Presidentials is always a good hike! |
