Comments
Comments: Our group hiked in to Zealand Falls Hut on Saturday afternoon. A few tagged Hale on and broke out Lend-a-Hand in doing so. I did not and can’t comment on it besides to say it was broken out.

From the road to the summer trailhead, I bare booted. There’s a bit of fresh snow on top of existing icy hardpack. At the summer trailhead, I switched to spikes and wore them all the way to the hut. Snowshoes could have been used for the last half a mile or so to the hut, but it was dealers choice there. From the hut across all of the Bonds and down to the wilderness boundary (about 3 miles from Lincoln Woods trailhead), we wore snowshoes. The trail had a well-established and posthole-free trench, but there was about an inch of fresh snow on top of it. There was some drifting above tree line, but nothing crazy. Snowshoes were still best above tree line. Once we were about 3 miles out from Lincoln Woods, the trail was very packed down, and we switched to spikes. There are a lot of fat tire bikers out on it, some going along pretty quick so be careful.

Bonds are all in great shape. There weren’t a ton of people out there today, but probably 15 snowshoes crossed them today.
