The early morning drive up from Mass was a tedious slow slog with a slew of accidents. Come on NH! Where were the snowplows?
Finally got to the parking lot around 9:30 am. So much for the early start to the hike. Anyway, Zealand Road was packed down and easily traversed in bare boots. Hale Brook Trail, mostly covered with a few inches of new fluffy snow. It got progressively deeper as you ascend the trail. Needless to say, snowshoes made (and will make) things much more manageable especially the steeper parts from 2800' to the summit. To make a long story short, most hikers wore snow shoes today so the trail should be in great shape. |
