Comments
Comments: The Mt. Prospect Trail was a skating rink with a dusting of new snow from last night. I went with Microspikes, but they were outmatched (as were others' judging by tracks). The flatter portions are fine, but the pitches need either Hillsounds, crampons, or a good mountain snowshoe. I didn't dare descend the whole thing. A few side trails are firm enough to support boot traffic, but others will need snowshoes (yes, there is still full snowpack in the woods, even after the thaw). In hindsight, I would have gone with snowshoes and taken a side trail.

Heard that the higher elevations in the area picked up almost half a foot of snow yesterday (plowable snow up at Stinson Lake).

Sunny, but chilly afternoon with temperatures in the 20s and a little bit of wind.
