The forecast rain/snow mix turned out to be all rain and fog. Yuck. Lost a few inches of snowpack, but full cover (albeit some of it ice/slush) still remains.
Old Mountain Road glacier is growing with slush and running water this afternoon. Glad to have my snowshoes on due to the soft/wet conditions. I suspect Microspikes will be inadequate if the freezes over with the forecast stretch of sub-freezing temperatures moving in.
Crawford Ridgepole Trail has a couple of sections of wall-to-wall ice on the pitch, which will outmatch Microspikes. Mountain snowshoes with crampons or Hillsounds probably a good idea tomorrow.
Dreary afternoon with mist and a brief rain/snow squall around 4:30 and temperatures in the 30s. |
