Parked at the scenic view lot on Rt 2 across from Cottage Rd. Last week I tried to park near the gas station but there was a massive sloppy snow berm in front of it and the scenic view was not plowed out that day. |

Spikes all the way today. Trail was pretty well packed on the way up, even better on the way down. Spikes were balling at a few points but not as bad as I expected since it was 43 degrees when I started. Some may prefer snowshoes between Starr King and Waumbek - doable without, but they may make quicker work as it was a bit movable and a bit unconsolidated. Saw 7 people today which was a nice surprise, as the trail on the way down was in great shape and I was able to get some speed to get me off that mountain. Passed a very friendly young man who encouraged me to keep pushing - I love the times where I look like I've never hiked a mountain.. one of those days! |
