 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Initially parked at Lafayette Place. The main lot (used for accessing Lonesome Lake) is unplowed and signed “no Highway vehicles”. The smaller lot (around to the right) has space for 8-10 cars. There were two spots left at 8:00. We decided to head over to Old Bridle parking area and meet our companions. OBP lot was icy, so we donned spikes right at the car. Plenty of parking. |

All four of us wore spikes from the parking lot. Two of us switched to snowshoes: one right after the last water crossing and the other at the Shining Rock spur. They kept them on across the ridge and switched back to spikes for the descent off of Lafayette. We saw one person wearing full crampons up on the ridge. I used K-10s and my friend used Hillsounds all day. Plenty of ice along the ridge so spikes weren’t getting dulled. Not as much drifting as I expected. We lucked out with the timing an enjoyed awesome undercast on Lafayette. |
