Lonesome Lake trail packed out and sledded on, so a snow highway all the way up to the hut, including across the lake. However, there was rotten, slushy snow on the lake under the snow off the packed trail, so I went around on the way back, for scenery as well.
Fishing Jimmy is less traveled but is in a good condition up until the climb to Kinsman Pond. The ice-and-snow-laden trees blockimg the way in spots were most annoying. Plenty of steep, icy spots, covered by loose snow. I was glad to put on snowshoes although it seemed like only one other person did so today. About 2 in of soft, powdery snow past Kinsman Pond all the way to North Kinsman. It looked like I was the only person to go out to the viewpoint, although there was nothing to see because of rolling clouds. The trail to South Kinsman was in the same condition, packed out and doable in spikes. Ran into a couple who were headed to and did make it all the way there. Descent was a bit treacherous on the icy spots covered by loose snow. |
