Trails were soft this afternoon from the January thaw. Snowpack is still full (except for a brief bare spot near the trailhead), but not particularly deep (1-6"). Soft and slushy for the first portion (will probably freeze to ice tonight), then a mixture of ice and spring snow. The upper portion of the trail was setting up near sunset.
I wore light snowshoes roundtrip with temperatures above freezing (easier than spinning my wheels in the slush), but Microspikes will probably be the way to go tomorrow based on the cooler forecast. Partly sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 30s. |
