We encountered between 2-6" of new snow today, more at the higher elevations. The trail beneath is well packed, though there is one spot by the brook that was a bit confusing...stay right and head uphill away from the brook at the fork to stay on the beaten path. We did the loop clockwise, and crampons worked best for the ascent of North Hancock. Starting the descent of South Hancock, it only took a few seconds to realize that staying on our feet wasn't going to be an option with the fresh powder on the steep trail, so we all opted for the 'rear-end express' which made the descent much faster. But beware of the blow down in the middle of the trail if you chose 'glissading'...it's right about head level! |
