The trail was in good shape, having a consistent base with shallow, loose snow on top to varying degrees. We carried snowshoes, which would have been OK, too, but spikes were working well and were the right choice for the steep cone. Slabs at top had plenty of boilerplate ice, largely covered with enough snow to gain purchase, with care. We encountered two other hikers today and all of us wore spikes throughout. There was little evidence of recent passage on the Webster Cliff Trail in either direction.
Beautiful hike with Chris. We hoped to beat the incoming weather and wind and succeeded. Although the low Ossipees were in the clouds on the drive up, the Presidentials were wide open, offering glorious views from Jackson's summit and in the woods. |
