After skiing at Loon all morning and some of the afternoon I decided to drive over the Kanc and tag Hedgehog's summit. I left my snowshoes in the car, it was silly warm 36 degrees. Trail was tracked out by snowshoes, snow is well consolidated and is not very deep, maybe a couple of inches. Snow and ice on trees dripped on me and sometimes a loud slushbomb would fall--how none of those hit me I don't know. Cool view from the top, and very windy, dark clouds just above all the peaks. On my way down it got really dark. I carried my spikes but never put them on, my boots barely made a track. Allen's ledge was nice. This was a quick easy one and good to stretch the legs. My timing was good, it started raining as soon as I started my car up. |
