Tough day for my backcountry skis. The trail has a well established footpath that is easily climbed with spikes or skins. A few water crossings but nothing major. Snow, where not packed, is 1-2 fresh inches on top of a thick icy crust and 3-4 inches loose underneath. Some small exposed rocks on the trail. Frankly, conditions were quite bad for skiing. I spent nearly the whole decent alternating between pizza-ing, side-slipping, and walking a few sections. Scraped quite a few rocks too. I dare say that low-elevation backcountry in the MWV is not back in yet. |
