Best wishes everyone for this New Year. On this first day of 2026 my pup and I set out to redline/trailtrace Hedgehog Mountain via the UNH Trail. Expected cold temps and winds made this a great choice for us. We headed through Franconia Notch and out on the Kanc -enjoying the sun hitting the ice covered trees. On trail the trees made tinkling noises as icy branches brushed together. The beauty of the sun, the ice, the wind, and the snow made for a magical hike. I wore my Hillsounds from start to finish -took the snowshoes for a ride. Trail is well packed and the Hillsounds were perfect for some icy sections on the ledges. Watch the blazing and trail on the East Ledges -significant ice and a bit tricky finding the blazes due to ice/snow coverage. The ledges were experiencing a lot of wind -blowing the trail in quickly. A great way to start the new year -what a magical day. |
