 | Comments: |
With single digit temperatures in the morning and high winds, Waumbek was a good choice for the last day of December. The trail started off hard packed with a couple inches of fresh powder on top. Approaching the final mile to Starr King, the trail turns right and there were huge drifts on this side. Snowshoes are best for this section and they will help firm and widen the trail. The trip over to Waumbek was broken out, but unconsolidated where there are drifts. The snow is deep and soft…snowshoes will help pack the trail, but spikes will be OK if staying in the center of the trail. |
