Comments
Comments: I snowshoed start to finish, so as to optimize my energy transfer to my forward progress and to enable mindless long strides, though you could spike it, or even - if you're crazy enough, use Crocs (with your feet in some sort of insulated sock, and in Sport mode, of course). The road and the trails have a firm packed base, with a couple inches of fresh snow on top - things are thin in the first stretch of the Garfield Trail when you're in the tall pine tree section, but that's an outlier. Snowshoes minimized energy loss for me, and made the last mile or so that much easier, especially the final summit push. 5F and windy on top, but it was still sunny and gorgeous! On my way down, the only person I saw all day was coming up in spikes.
