Hiked in to Zealand Hut on Monday. Zealand Road was pure slush and it was a very long 7 mile slog.
New snow overnight on Tuesday on top of the crusty layer from Monday, with more fluff underneath. Temp was 3 with winds gusting to 30. Broke trail for 6 miles over Zealand and Guyout all the way to South Twin.
At Guyout there’s a stretch above tree line and it was a pure war zone. Glare ice and getting pushed to my knees with ice pellets.
Heading up South Twin into was wall of fresh powder. Took some time, but broke it out.
After South Twin, a quick bop over to North Twin where a pair of tracks was finally ahead of me. Then the long 6 miles out to Seven Dwarves where a ride was waiting. There was still running water down the trail from Mondays storm, as well as all the water crossings are now open. Crazy day with all the stuff. |
