My first time up Scarface and second time on Bickford. Having done it from Lafayette before, I decided to try a new way from the other side. The dotted line I saw on Gaia didnt exist past 100’ from where I parked, so it was a bushwhack from the beginning, though it seemed like I might have been on an old skidder path, grown in long ago. This took me too far NE about a half mile until I realized I needed to turn 90 degrees and head up the hill which I could sort of make out through the young hardwoods. It wasn’t too thick, just occasionally whippy, and decent footing with only 4” of snow with no base. I came to the snowmobile trail NHSA-11 and was on that for only a minute before continuing uphill. The woods were open up high, except for some softwood thickets in the col between the two peaks to navigate. Both registers are in good shape. It took me only 1:45 to reach the top, and was an easy descent following my footprints, except I still could not find any trail down low that wasn’t long overgrown. |
