Snowshoes from the start. You could easily bareboot most all of Pine Bend now that it saw a few pairs of snowshoes today. The snow depth down low is really sad. I kicked a lot of rocks in my Tubbs. There was maybe 5 - 6 inches of new snow. The 1 million little water crossings were even more annoying than usual. Even more annoying was trying to hop on the tiniest rocks to get across in the clown shoes. Once the climbing starts I was grateful for the televators though. The snow depth increased, but it was still very easy trail breaking.
After North Tri was a different world. Much more snow here. I barely kicked any rocks! Then the drifts got insane as I was climbing to Middle. The snow was slippery and I struggled to break through many sections that were up to my hips (I'm 5'5"). Eventually made it after consuming a shot, lots of swearing, and sliding. Enjoyed the sunny summit, and headed back to where I came from. The descent was a pain in my snowshoes down low. I tripped badly and decided to take them off and was so irritated I threw them over each remaining water crossing. Tripyramids have never been a favorite of mine lol. It was one of those days where I seriously questioned why I decided to work on G2. |
