Comments
Comments: First (and only) tracks this afternoon following last night's snow. Generally about 4-8" of powder (a little more moisture content than the snowfalls earlier this month, so it's packing better) on top of a hodgepodge of base conditions. I wore snowshoes roundtrip and was glad to have them, particularly in the areas where there's blue ice underneath, but there are also a few bony spots (the rocky part between the side roads and a few areas on the ridge that lost their snowpack last week). Some areas on Old Mountain Erode were slushy underneath, so at least the snowshoes will help set a level track (rather than having slush postholes freeze).

Beautiful Christmas Eve weather with the fresh snow, clearing skies, and temperatures in the upper 20s. Squam Lake still has open water on the north side, but appears to be mostly frozen over (thanks to this month being 5+ degrees colder than average).
