The water crossings on Falling Waters are semi-unstable ice bridges and/or open water. Best to spot rocks under the ice and aim for them. Had a couple break throughs and wet feet. |

 | Comments: |
Went in the clockwise direction. Old Bridal Path is a solid sidewalk of snow. Post holes on the sides but the center of the trail is immaculate. This continues past the hut and to treeline. Above that there is a lot of wind blown crust, exposed rocks, and patches of ice. Franconia Ridge is mostly all exposed rocks and ice. Falling waters below treeline is more of the immaculate sidewalk. Wore hillsound trail crampons and they worked very well the whole day. Saw a few people in crampons and one could argue for them but I didn’t find them necessary except for maybe a few small spots that were navigated with extra care. Snowshoes are not necessary as of this posting unless you don’t like your equipment and want to see them destroyed [but you should bring them in case you get off trail in unexpected bad weather]. Trail is in great condition but more snow on the way later today. |
