Glad that I left her at home. Blue ice on some of the ledge areas and unpacked powder at higher elevations - just not worth the risks this time of year. |

Clockwise route from Ferncroft. The trail segment south of Mt Wonalancet was packed, I wore micro spikes from the parking area to summit of Mt Wonalancet. The trail between Mt Wonalancet and Old Mast Rd had only one other set of snowshoe tracks. I strongly recommend snowshoes across the high elevations of WRT and Walden Trail. I went out & back along the WRT Shortcut for red lining purposes but the tracks will probably be covered by the next snowfall. The spurs to each vista were well worth it!
Sketchy blue ice at: 1) the vista on WRT, just south the Mt Wonalancet summit; 2) the steep broken ledge on Walden Trail, about halfway between WRT and Old Mast Rd.
Lots of moose tracks from Hibbard Mt to Old Mast Rd. We really can't blame moose for making postholes. |
