Comments: The long night is here! A FINE day in the forest was had! 1005 start to usher in Winter. We departed from the upper lot of CH Graham Overlook, finding a heavily trafficked path. We believe it may have been a climbers path as it goes in the direction of some cliffs along the road - and in the total opposite direction of where we needed to go. Not a big deal, we took a bearing towards the col of Northwest and Kancamagus Nub. Conditions where overall excellent. I have heard horror stories from this side however at no point did I find this to be as menacingly thick as I have seen it billed. Route finding, trail breaking where about 2/3 of the trip time for us (4 hours on the nose). We did find a minor cliff/rocky band at about elevation 3060, but it did appear there are multiple options, as evident by a different route on the way down. We found a cairn near Northwest (not at summit) that is within reason for being a town corner of Lincoln and Livermore, so that was great. Good wood for approximately 90% of the trip. Summit canister was wildly over tightened and Zachary was working on it for a few minutes but got it open. No evidence of moose, much to my dismay, I had found a match set here in years past. For the size queens, there was a noticeable difference in flotation from Zachary's 28" and my 21". Snow is largely unconsolidated powder, spots that see sun are thin layer of breakable crust with powder underneath. Attached is a great article about the history of this peak. Did you know that Passaconaway was Kancamagus' grandfather?
