Fun day helping a buddy dip his toes into the dark arts of “winter” hiking. The trail is mostly cruiser, we spiked it door to door and did not carry snowshoes (he doesn’t have any yet so I wanted us to be even on gear). When we hit the alpine zone the trail was a little soft coming around the shoulder and we plowed into some pretty good drifts as expected at/around the junction, wouldn’t have been worth it to change into snowshoes at that point anyway. But, if you want to use them, the coverage is perfect and you’d have a lovely time.
Trees are covered in snow and the woods are absolutely gorgeous right now. Get up there if you can. |
