Comments
Comments: Bare-booted to bridged (planks) crossing where I put microspikes on. Only mud and a few small patches of ice to this point (~2400'), it is basically full-on mud season from the field to this point. It was early (summitted at 11AM) and the trails were packed enough that I spiked to the summit (bare rock on the final cone), had one or two post-holes right near the base of the cone (my bad). Bare rock on the cone itself. Ridge between South Peak and the main peak has a lot of snow still, several feet worth. I was OK in spikes in the AM before much sun hit it, but those after me were post-holing like mad, it's pretty chewed up now between the 2 peaks. Stay on the trail or even snowshoes will post-hole hip-deep! Snowshoed from the main summit to South Peak and down to 2400', bare-booted out. MAJOR ice flow around the 3000' mark, several hundred feet long with water trickling over it, and still plenty thick. Snowshoes with good crampons and light traction both handled it fine. Mud is nasty in a few spots below the crossing, had a nasty slip resulting in a broken treking pole.

Low winds, clear skies, warm temps, and an undercast made for a terrific day on the Moose! Lots of people reached the top between 12-1PM. Great day for winter#24!
