A cold, blustery day for this one. Snowshoes round-trip both for the current snow conditions and because part of this route is on ski trails.
Snow depths were minimal to start, increasing to about a half a foot higher up with deeper drifted areas. Once on the ski trails, I followed a drifted in track and created my own in places well off to the side to stay out of the existing ski tracks. There was enough wind to partially fill in my tracks.
At the communication towers on top, I briefly followed ski tracks into the woods, then Quarry Way up toward the summit. I did a short bushwhack to what looked like it might be the high point, but the summit are is super flat. I did not find a register mentioned in an earlier report but there is a large glacial erratic with a big red paint stripe on it. Maybe that's considered the high point?
On the way down I was treated to super views of Mt. Kearsarge. Aside from one person walking their dog at the trailhead, I saw no one else, but there was plenty of evidence of skiers using the slopes. |
