Comments
Comments: My last hike of the winter season..calendar anyway. We put on snowshoes right at the base and these were the right choice today, both for televators, traction, and flotation on ascent and traction and flotation headed down. Trail fairly firm through the glades...just soft enough on the numerous blue ice sections for a good snowshoe grip. Cutting off to Cannon cliffs the snow got deeper but still well consolidated..we ran into a gentleman barebooting there..he looked at our snowshoes .said nothing and moved on. This one guy must have postholed to his crotch 100 tiimes...amazing he was still walking. We lingered at the cliffs in the warm sun for quite awhile..excellent..a few bony spots headed up from there..the Rim Trail has very deep postholed snow in places...The tower was glorious..a little breeze nothing too crazy and we hung out awhile. Jeremy and Ali headed for french fries while Tim Val and I lounged in the sun...A family in ski boots traversing the Rim Trail with an amazing amount of postholes just shook their heads at the plastic things on our feet..someone said we were the smart ones.in the soft snow we were able to smooth out some of their mess but warning...very deep postholes remain.

Thanks to Jeremy, Tim C , Ali, and Valerie for a great winter ending hike. Valerie and I finished our SSW48 back on March 2..today we finished off the winter season on Cannon by completing all SSW48 as a team. Thanks so much Valerie (Val C) for an excellent winter adventure which varied from glorious days like this on Cannon, or Eisenhower..to the winds of Jefferson..to the near white outs on Moosilauke and Adams..Great stuff and a winter I won't soon forget
