Comments
Comments: I put the snowshoes on about 5 minutes into Zealand Road. There’s only 3-4 inches but still it’s like beach sand, not packing down at all, but my toe crampons were scraping the pavement so I was seeking out the deeper unbroken parts. Trying to walk in the tracks of those ahead of me was actually worse. I passed 2 others about a mile from the top, so I got fresh tracks and it was the same 4 inches up there and this trail is smooth by white mountain standards so it was pretty nice. A big jay at the top was being a jerk and stole a bite of my sandwich twice. Some skiers had come up the Fire Warden and they were saying it was not good and they had to take their skis off many times and weren’t looking forward to the descent. My descent was pretty quick, and round trip it was 4.5 hours for this 9.5 mile hike.
