Comments
Comments: Snowshoes today, finally. Few inches of fresh snow down low to start, only mildly boney but obviously pretty unconsolidated, so snowshoes worked best for me. Followed a set of snowshoe and a couple bareboot tracks to the A-Z jct - they headed up Avalon and I took the untouched A-Z Trail. Broke trail from here all the way up to the summit. There was a good amount of snow, 8-10", very light and powdery. Still a few larger rocks poking through but it wasn't a real issue. Snow depth seemed to get to 10-16", perhaps combined with Sunday's storm or maybe all from Tuesday. The steeper section right before the Tom Spur jct was a fun section where I made a slight mess of the trail, but I was just trying to get up there, man. Snow on Tom Spur seemed to be slightly less and a bit more boney. No tracks coming from Willey Range Trail. I tried to smooth out my trail on my descent and I think I actually did okay with just my tracks. Never saw the people that headed towards Avalon, only saw one guy going up to the hut, so there will be another set of tracks towards Tom. Saw a grouse pop straight out of the snow two feet away from me, which was a wonderful wild moment. Lots of snowshoe hare tracks near the summit as well.
