Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, November 30, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: An inch or so of packed snow and ice but easily traveled if going at a reasonable speed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hopable on the crossing about a mile in. Some of the rocks were icy and slippery.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One major blowdown just below Bunnell Notch that has been limbed and could be difficult for a short hiker. The increasing snow depth should help. It'll take a significant effort to remove this one.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No pups today.
Bugs
Bugs: Happily none.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Looked for lost iPhone near the summit but there's a foot of snow up high and no sign of it. I'm afraid that won't be found until April or May.

Comments
Comments: Pleasant bare boot hike the first mile and a half, then an annoying changing shoulder season mix of snow, ice bare ground and running water until just above Bunnell Rock. Thena nice snowshoe trench to the summit where I used my snowshoes. Some people used spikes and did fine but after the next storm it'll be snowshoes most of the way.
