Lonesome Lake trail to the hut had very little snow. Didn't need traction. After the hut there was about 2-4 inches of unpacked snow on the Fishin' Jimmy trail. Two pairs of boots had gone through before me (we saw the owners of those boots heading down later). Up higher on the Fishin' Jimmy trail & Kinsman Ridge trail there were shorter sections of slightly deeper snow and some snow drifts but not enough to wear snowshoes comfortably so mine stayed on my back the whole time. Too many rocks, roots and ice exposed to warrant snowshoes. Underneath the loose powder there was a lot of ice, some of it so thick that even my Hillsound Trail Crampons were having a hard time keeping me upright. Took some accidentally butt slides heading back down after sunset. Mount Kinsman trail was not broken out and didn't look like it had been touched in awhile. Hopefully this storm brings enough snow to cover all the ice.
