From the late start, snow was falling rapidly. Lower elevations had a coating on top of leaves. Lots of ice hiding under fresh fallen snow. Spikes on at Bald Peak junction but were no match for the amount of snow and ice encountered heading up to KRT. Made it about 300’ before the next junction and called it with low visibility. Winds were in high gear and descending in the dark was not an option. Snow shoes would be key upwards here though still finding some wet spots with tons of ice. Spikes were like walking on bumpy ground with all the snow balls forming, all the way back down. Saw a handful of others and one made the summits earlier. |
