 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Whoa boy…
I would highly advise against trying to get up Starr King Road unless your vehicle is literally lifted. You might get in ok, but we watched an SUV get its front end slammed twice on the way out. That road is like Wu-Tang right now (#iykyk)
The lot next to the golf course is your best bet. Plenty of parking, and no danger of blowing out any part of your vehicle. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are a couple of leaners that don’t look like they’re going to make the winter based on the amount of snow/ice already accumulated on them. |

A couple random items at the trailhead, but I honestly don’t recall what they were. |

You could have donned spikes from car-to-car. We barebooted until right before the right-hand turn that starts going up. Below that, very little coverage and was mostly snow-covered leaf litter. Above that, the ice started, but it was nice and grippy.
Once in the conifers, snow coverage increased, but still way too bony for snowshoes. Nice, solid base, though. Last 400-500’ of vert below the summit, the wind was blowing some powder into the track, so the surface got a little softer.
No need for anything beyond spikes at this point. Trail needs a solid 6-12” to fill in before snowshoes would be an option. |
