 | Comments: |
Snowshoes not needed until next snowstorm. Carried trash bags due to uncertain stream crossings, but didn't use them. Safer to have spikes on for the 3 crossings. Barebooted to 3rd stream crossing, then Hillsounds up Brutus to Owl's Head and all the way back to Black Pond bushwhack. Snowed heavily on the summit ridge, 1-3 inches of new snow, blustery and cold. Snow flurries in lower elevations created a dusting of snow that hid some tricky ice patches. Some deep mud we experienced to knee and mid-calf height when we thought it was frozen ground. Great day to Owl's Head, with more blue sky patches than expected. Only 3 other hikers seen all day. |
