Comments: wow...Presi Day..Valley Way had an icy monorail this morning which transitioned to frozen granular to the hut..microspikes worked great.Nice undercast to the north especially in the morning. Mixture of bare rock, frozen granular and blue ice to Adams..most people were in spikes,,crampons is use as well and a few determined barebooters. Basked in the sun in near calm conditions as Ali and Kevin got their respective 47th. We chose crampons for descent and while there were a few rocky stretches these worked great back to the hut. Ascent to Madison virtually snow and ice free..microspikes were perfect. Celebrated Ali's first round of the 48 and Kevins winter 48 finish on Madison.. Congratulations to you both!!! Valerie had a delightful picnic spread that we enjoyed back at the hut.

We chose snowshoes for initial descent as the snow had softened up by the afternoon and we kept those on to around 3000 feet where we switched to spikes for the remainder of the hike. Lovely detours down Fallsway and Fellsway and the water is starting to run.Lack of winter traffic here gave some good stretches of soft forest floor footing..very nice . Lots of familiar faces on the trails today and everyone chatting smiling and just enjoying the day. Exceptional
