Spikes door to door today. After regretting the choice of leaving snowshoes behind last weekend, I took them, but this time they got a free ride. Oh well.
Greeley Pond Trail is a bit bony. Patches of packed down snow interspersed with minor mud and some running water. Typical stick season conditions. Once the ascent begins, the snow fills in more, but there is rock sticking out all the way to East Osceola. The steep section has more than enough crunchy snow to not be overly difficult; there’s almost no ice right now. Spikes are definitely the traction of choice. Between the peaks, the snow is a little deeper—not a lot deeper, but a little deeper. I can see remnants of a snowshoe trench in between, but it’s been so heavily used that spikes were much more useful. There were only a couple of partially drifted in snowshoe tracks from the Osceola overlook to the true summit in the trees, and no evidence of snowshoe tracks going down towards Tripoli Road.
