Well what day to be up high! Bethany gave us the best car spot two chicks could have and we started around 7:15. Made good time to the hut and a bunch of high school students were there⦠wow. Place was steamy and the croo was nice and offered us water. After this there was no more easy. I knew Ilse had a group in front of us and we followed the foot prints in the snow. We barebooted to Zealand but that was because it would have been an ankle wreck to try and smooth out the track of footprints. When we got to zealand to see her group putting on snowshoes and that was where we put ours on as well. Got quite cold and added toewarmers and layers before heading to guyot. We hit treeline and were shocked to see we hit some amazing sun and undercast! We passed their group and headed up the second bump and to west bond. There was maybe a day old snowshoe track we had been following. The snow was very fluffy but it was packing down a bit. We headed up Bond and Rich had gone in front of us. Once hitting that summit we were on our way to find out more conditions. Snow depth was probably 1-2 feet of snow some spots less some spots more. We just hit the treeline when we found Rich sitting there with untouched/wind blown trail. He was unsure where to go and thankfully we have been here in the same kind of thought as him. So we took over the lead again and headed to bondcliff on tops of trees. We then ran into deep deep post holes coming from bondcliff. We may have had some choice works through here. It did get boney once we started up from the cole. We finally took our snowshoes off as rock walking with them hurt the soul. Made it up bondcliff with no traction and still little wind and mild temps compared to what was forecasted. Headed down bondcliff with snow, mud, water and finally no snow trail on lincoln woods. Got out at 5:38 which was awesome with all the conditions we had for the day. Epic day to have and holy full winter! Thankfully we had seen a report on here about a week ago from twins-zealand with snowshoes being necessary (especially since I did Moriah a few days earlier with drastically little to no snow). Each mountain had their own conditions right now, good luck! |
