My dog did fine in snow that was over her head for a lot of this route. She thinks that that is hilarious. |

Snowshoes on starting 0.25 miles below the Garfield Ridge junction, and off again below that point. I was fortunate to foloow behind this super strong and super nice hiker named Nick; his continued steps visible in the deep snow in front of me definitely kept me going! There were 4 others, besides Nick and I, in snowshoes, and about a half dozen in light traction. It’s tedious snowshoeing as there are spots where you bang against the rocks, but the snow was consistently knee deep well before the Hut so they really do make it easier for this route. There is currently no compacted base so ascent and descent are slippery. My light traction went for a ride because there is little to no ice; I barebooted when I was not in snowshoes.
I stood at the Twinway junction and debated the plan for the Twins. They were socked in, the Twinway snow was mid-thigh, and I would be hiking out in the dark. Nope, left those for another day! |
